“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:2–3 (ESV)
I re-read the 20th chapter of Exodus and these 2 verses started to come together in a new way, a new focus. God’s chosen were enslaved in Egypt and He brought them out of Egypt and out of that bondage. Because He made them for Himself, and because they were no longer enslaved, the people of God were free to worship Him. The geography of this event was Egypt and the results of God intervening was freedom from the bondage they were in to Pharaoh. We know how that worked out and the history of mankind breaking the first commandment.
Change locations to Calvary and there we see God intervening again. And again, there is a freedom from the bondage of sin, the slavery of the flesh, because the curse of sin was placed on His Son Jesus. The result is I can now worship in Spirit and in Truth. The result is I am now His child forever. The result is I live for Him now and with Him for eternity.
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Galatians 5:1 (KJV 1900)
